Staying safe in floodwater
- Keep away from lamp posts, junction boxes and any cable sitting in water. If your home floods, switch off the breaker first.
- Do not wade through fast-moving water or water where you cannot see the ground. Open drain covers are a common hazard.
- Water above half a wheel can stall a car and float it. Turning back beats pushing through.
- Floodwater is usually contaminated. Wash hands and any cuts, and do not drink water that has not been boiled.
